The “Hero” Returns: How to Build a Life After Migration

Date:

There is a moment every migrant worker dreams of.

It is the moment the plane touches down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The wheels hit the tarmac, the pilot announces “Welcome to Dhaka,” and your heart beats a little faster. You walk out of the terminal, pushing a trolley stacked with luggage, and see your wife, your children, and your parents waiting for you.

There are tears. There are hugs. It is the end of a long sacrifice.

But after the celebration is over, after the gifts are distributed, and after the stories are told… silence falls. A week passes. Then a month. And suddenly, a scary question arises:

“What do I do now?”

At Sena Kalyan Overseas Employment Services (SKOESL), we believe that migration is not just about leaving; it is about returning. We don’t just want you to go abroad as a worker; we want you to come back as a Hero.

But being a hero isn’t just about bringing money. It is about bringing value. Today, I want to talk to you about how to build a powerful second life after your time abroad is finished.

You Are Not the Same Person Who Left

The biggest mistake returnees make is thinking, “I am just a village boy who went to work.”

No. You are incorrect.

When you left Bangladesh 5, 10, or 15 years ago, maybe you were unskilled. Maybe you were shy. But look at yourself now.

  • You have worked in the skyscrapers of Dubai.
  • You have operated advanced machinery in South Korea.
  • You have managed strict schedules in Japan.
  • You have learned to speak Arabic, Malay, or English.
  • You have learned Discipline.

You are no longer just a laborer. You are a man with international experience. You have seen how the developed world functions. This experience is your greatest asset—even more valuable than the gold chain or the blankets you brought in your suitcase.

The Trap of “Eating the Savings”

Too many of our brothers fall into a dangerous trap. They come home with 20 or 30 Lakh Taka in the bank. They think, “I have worked hard. Now I will rest.”

They sit in the village market. They play cards. They drink tea. They pay for everyone’s lunch because they want to show they are “rich.”

Slowly, the money drains away. Inflation eats the savings. Medical emergencies happen. And within three years, the money is gone. The hero becomes a burden. I have seen men who earned lakhs of Taka abroad forced to work as day laborers in their own village because they had no plan.

Do not let this happen to you. Rest for one month. Then, get back to work.

Turn Your Foreign Skill into a Local Business

You do not need to look for a job. You can create jobs. You have the capital, and you have the skill.

1. If you were a Driver in Saudi Arabia: Don’t just drive a rickshaw here. Buy a used pickup truck or a microbus. Start a “Rent-A-Car” service or a small logistics delivery business. You know how to maintain a vehicle; you know road safety. Use that.

2. If you worked in Agriculture in Oman: You saw how they grow vegetables in the desert using drip irrigation and greenhouses. Why are you farming rice in the old way here? Bring that technology to your village. Start a high-value vegetable farm or a modern poultry shed. You will earn three times more than traditional farmers.

3. If you were in Construction in Malaysia: You know how to lay tiles perfectly. You know plumbing standards. Don’t work as a helper. Start a small “Contractor Firm.” Hire two young boys, teach them what you know, and take contracts to build houses in your area. Sell “Quality,” not just labor.

4. If you were in Hospitality/Cleaning: Start a professional cleaning company for offices in the district town. Teach your staff the hygiene standards you learned abroad.

You Are a National Asset

Bangladesh is developing fast. We are building bridges, metros, and tunnels. Who will build these?

We need skilled people. The government values you. The Sena Kalyan Sangstha values you.

When you return, you bring back “Technology Transfer.” You are the bridge between the modern world and your village. When you teach your neighbor how to use a power tool correctly, or when you tell your children about the punctuality of the Japanese people, you are building the nation.

Invest in the Next Generation

The final part of your duty as a returning hero is to guide the youth.

You know the pain of the “Middleman” (Dalal). You know the danger of illegal migration. When you see a young boy in your village trying to pay a bribe to go abroad, stop him. Show him your passport. Tell him your story. Tell him: “Don’t take the illegal path. Go to a Training Center. Go to SKOESL. Get skilled first.”

Your voice has power because you have been there. You are the guardian of your community.

Welcome Home, Soldier

In the Army, when a soldier retires, we say his duty never truly ends. He remains a soldier in spirit.

For us at SKOESL, you are the economic soldiers of Bangladesh. You fought the war against poverty on foreign soil. You sacrificed your youth, your sleep, and your family time to send money home to keep our economy alive.

Now that you are back, do not fade away. Stand tall. Use your money wisely. Use your skills proudly.

You did not go abroad just to survive. You went to succeed. Now, make that success permanent right here on the soil of Bangladesh.
